Accomodation and some Tips

City of Bergamo

The city of Bergamo counts over 120,000 inhabitants, and if we count the number of people

living in the province, it rises to about 1 million residents.

The city, divided between the medieval Upper City, one of the few historic centres in Italy that is still surrounded by the Venetian walls, now UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the modern Lower City, is recognised by the international press and tourists who visit it every day as one of the most enchanting cities in Lombardy. The streets of art are intertwined with those of history in a city of ancient origins: Bergamo upper town, with its medieval atmosphere, contains ancient Roman ruins, Renaissance churches, 18th-century palazzos and neoclassical facades in its narrow-cobbled streets, overlooking the famous Piazza Vecchia, just a few steps from the museums. The twentieth and twenty-first centuries could be found in the heart of Bergamo lower town. The city is served by Bergamo-Orio al Serio airport, from which there are frequent connections to many cities in Italy and Europe, making it Italy's third busiest airport, after Rome-Fiumicino and Milan-Malpensa. It is also thanks to this connection that tourism has seen increasing numbers over the years. In addition, there is Kilometro Rosso, a Science and Technology Park that hosts companies, hi-tech production activities, research centers and laboratories.

A second funicular allows you to reach from the upper city the hill of San Vigilio in a few minutes. Here, in addition to a splendid overview, you can admire the castle. A Bike Sharing service is also available to move more freely.

For those who move by car there are various parking lots and you must consider that some streets are regulated by ZTL. By cab, the approximate cost of a ride from the airport to the city centre is 8 euros. All information on transport in the city at the following sites
